Moon Phase Watch!

Today is Rajab 30 (June 9), which means the month of Shabaan starts this evening! Now is a great time to start reviewing the phases of the moon and learning/practicing the duaa for sighting the crescent moon.

Here are some resources and activities:

Moon Phase Observation Journal

• Pick the same time each night to observe the moon. Record your findings in a moon phase journal.
  • Moon Phase Observation Log from Universe Theater and Planetarium
• You can make a cardboard tube telescope (with or without lenses) and decorate it to make it more fun to observe the moon.
• Check your observations against a moon phase calendar (northern or southern hemisphere).
• Use this observe the moon lesson plan to get more out of this activity, insha Allah.

Duaa for Sighting the Crescent Moon

• Recite this duaa if you see  the crescent moon tonight, insha Allah and again for Ramadan (and the start of any Islamic month)
•  Download Mini mumin’s duaa poster or my Ramadan organizer which contains the duaa in word for word translation form.

Multiplication and Division File Folder Sets

I don’t post too much over here anymore so that I won’t run into too much duplication with my main sites at Blogspot

I just wanted to share some new items that I have posted on the main TJ Math Blogspot site.  Back in 2008, on this blog, I had posted part of a multiplication file folder set that I made (original post: http://talibiddeenjr.wordpress.com/2008/04/23/multiplication-file-folder-games-multiplication-lapbooks/), but never got around to finishing it. Over the years, I have had several requests for the missing times tables set.  Late last year, my 11 year old and I revised and finished the set and made a division one as well.

Since there was an interest in this resource, I thought that I’d announce that you can download both of these items over at TJ Mathematics:
