Arabic Grammar Notes: Chapter 2 – Parts of a sentence

Parts = ajza’u
Ajza’u al jumlah (Parts of the sentence):
In Arabic, there are three types of words:

noun/name (ism)
verb (fi’l)
harf

As for the noun (ism), it can be:

people (insaan)
animals (hayuwaan)
plants (nabaat)
inaminate objects (jamaad)
other things (ayyu shayin akhara)

The verb: (fi’l)

indicates an occurrence (husool) of an action (‘aml) with respect to time (zaman).

Al harf:

Examples of the harf: fee, ‘alaa, hal

Jumlah (= sentence)
Al Jumlatul Mufeedah:

conveys a complete, self contained meaning
is composed of two or more words

What about one word commands such as Ijlis (sit!)? Is this a jumlatul mufeedah as it only contains one word?
This is considered a jumlatul mufeedah because although it appears to be a one word sentence, in actuality, it is two words.  [...]
