"Short" Distance E Learning; or

Finding your  homeschooling materials on the computer lickety split

while your children wait to avoid them slipping away while you look

I get a great deal of homeschooling materials from the internet.  Sometimes it is an absolute nightmare to keep track of all the downloaded/saved materials unless I take the time to file them in a logical  place as I download/save them.  Then, after the materials are saved, finding them again efficiently while the kids await during "class" can be another nightmare.  So, I have devised a system to help cut down on that "live" search time.

The Big Idea: Make a web page saved locally to my desktop with local links (on my computer) and save it to the desktop.

What to Do:

1. Open up word and design a blank weekly schedule (table or text). Save it as a template so it does not have to be remade each week. See sample below.

Subject

Saturday

Sunday

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday

Thursday

2.Fill in the squares with the description of the assignments (see above).

3. Using control + k,  add a link to each assignment, as necessary.  When you press control + k a dialog box pops up.  Find your file and press ok. Repeat for all assignments which have materials on your hard drive (html, doc, pdf, exe (programs (example: a quraan recitor), audios (lecture, learning audio), etc). You could also link to an online web page by typing in the URL in the dialog box.

4. Save as a web page to your desktop.

5. Voile.  Now when you or your children need to obtain documents, programs, etc. on the computer (or internet) for that week for school, they are just a click away.  This is a helpful time saver for me, as well as a helper to prevent kids fishing around on the computer looking for the files while you are nursing, cleaning, or teaching other kids and messing something up.

You might want to print out a copy of the schedule as well.
