Preschool Curriculum – Week 1

07 Oct

Note: The daily skills practice (see last post) can also be broken up by subject and done during that subject’s session.

Also, please excuse the formatting, it’s a little whacky.

Language

Day 1

  • Name concrete objects in environment (house).

My 13 year old took him around the house and asked him what different things were.

  • Name recognition and name tracing (this is daily).

I have lots of ideas for this at TJ. TJ’s Daily Name Recognition/Writing Routine

Plus here are some more resources:

ABC’s and Names

Mrs. Stewart’s Kindergarten Names Activities

www.hubbardscupboard.com has a 2 page PDF file with many name recognition activities.

Math

Day 1

The Number One

  • Recognition  (line of numbers, pick out the number one)
  • Writing it (writing practice sheets, laminated, cut up and put into file folder
  • Matching sets to numeral, matching sets to oral directions (real objects or sets of drawn objects
  • More or Less

Show two sets of objects, which has more, which has less. I found worksheets at http://www.kidzone.ws/prek_wrksht/math-readiness/comparisons.htm  and cut them up and put them in a file folder.

Day 2

Continue with number 1 activities this week, as needed

Donna  Young’s Handwriting Section has some really nice worksheets for this activity. I suggest cutting then up, laminating them and gluing to file folder to make a handwriting practice file folder.  He/she can use this anytime, insha Allah.

 Day 2

Day 3

Use scissors to cut (lines or free cutting)

Day 4

Coloring

Day 5

Pour rice, water, or sand

Day 6

Free painting

Gross Motor

Play “Simon Says”  (or in our house, Samirah says)

Have him/her repeat activities such as hopping, jumping, skipping, marching, touching nose, etc. (You might name these actions in Arabic, if possible or the body parts you touch).

Play Hokey Pokey

Science

I’ve allotted science to 2 days a week, insha Allah. We just plan to do simple preschool experiments that I have found online (see my preschool science post for ideas). I will list some here, but of course any can be substituted. As of now, there is no real order or categorization of topics.

This week, I’ve picked Raisin Rising and Mini Ocean for our “experiments” insha Allah. They are the first two items on this page: http://www.childcarelounge.com/Caregivers/sciencefun.htm

Social Development

This week we are working on independent bathroom skills. We are still not potty trained(we’ll he’s not, I am). My 13 year old (or I) take him to the bathroom, let him sit on the mirhad himself, make istinja and wash his hands by himself under our watch). So we’ll focus on that this week as well as continue after this week, insha Allah.

and that’s it for this week, insha Allah………..

I’d appreciate any comments you have if you decide to use the curriculum so that I can improve it, insha Allah.  Insha Allah, I hope to post the next 2 weeks this week insha Allah.  They are prepared, but its a matter of getting to the cafe and typing them up…………………

Happy Learning!
