Prophets and Messengers: Prophet Shu’ayb lesson

Happy Sunday!  I hope this week was very productive for fellow homeschoolers (well, really for everyone!).

Today is really hot, my kids and I are somewhat dreading the return of hot weather here in the gulf region. They are looking forward to going to the beach (though you can really go year around here), but it is super muggy and hot here so that’s the drawback.

Ok, got a little off topic. Last week we studied Prophet Shu’ayb, alayhi salaam, and I prepared a little lesson for our studies:

The file is also available from the main TJ Islamic Studies website:

Understand-Islam.net also has a Prophet Shu’ayb audio:http://understand-islam.net/audio/Sources%20of%20Inspiration%20.%20-%20.%201.%20Stories%20of%20Prophets/The%20Prophets/08-%20Shu%27ayb%20%27alayhis%20salaam.mp3

Biography of the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) pretest

Insha Allah, we are getting ready to study “Knowing the Mercy to Mankind” a biography of the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) by Dr. Saleh as Saleh (rahimuhullah).

This is an excellent work (the book) , 20 pages, that is great for children and a good refresher for adults.  So do check it out if you haven’t yet and are looking for something like this.

http://www.understand-islam.net/Books/Knowing%20Prophet%20Muhammad.pdf

I put the text into readability statistics in Microsoft Word and it is at Grade level 4.7.  My test is level 5.7.

I made up the pretest to kind of see what we had forgotten and what we remembered. Insha Allah, I will be making lessons for the book and will post them here/at the main site.

Prophets Lesson: Prophet Lut (alayhi salaam)

Copywork:
[029:026] So, Lût (Lot) believed in him [Ibrâhîm’s (Abraham’s) Message of Islâmic Monotheism]. He [Ibrâhîm (Abraham)] said: “I will emigrate for the sake of my Lord. Verily, He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.”

Younger students: Write the words: Lut, Prophet

Tip: for copywork for older students, have them write a daily heading at the top of each page each day in Arabic (hijri date, Arabic translitated date (i.e. yanayir (in Arabic), season. I have found that this helps them learn the months, seasons, etc without having to do a separate set of lessons.)

Activities:
Introduce the concept of a prophet (for younger kids)with this poem from Islam4Kids.com: (The Prophets and the Messengers).

You might even have students copy the poem for copywork.

Discuss that we say alayhi sallam after the name of a Prophet

Read about Prophet Lut (alayhi sallam)
(The format is a little tedious, but you might copy and paste it into word and increase the font, add paragraphs, etc)

Or read from “Stories of the Prophets” by Ibn Kathir

After reading, have student fill out Prophet Study Sheet :

Audio: Prophet Lut (alayhi sallam)

Lastly, I just completed a whole lesson for learning about Prophet Lut

Sending Salaah upon the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam)

Below is  the link for  a lesson and lesson plan that I put together on this subject.

It initially started out as an independent lesson for my older children to complete. I added a sort of lesson plan for a teacher/parent to follow to teach younger children (maybe first/second grade and up) about this important topic.  So, insha Allah, maybe  the pack would be helpful for those teaching first grade – junior high students).

This is a general outline of what is in it and the topics it covers:

• That we are commanded to send salaah upon the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam)

• The virtues, or benefits, of sending salaah upon the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa

sallam)

• Occasions (times) for sending salaah upon the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam)
